Greg Williamson
Biography
Greg has been racing downhill since 2006 doing most of his racing in the early years as a privateer with support from his family. His big break came in 2013 when he was signed onto the Trek World Racing program and started scoring Top 10 World Cup results. Since then he has raced for CUBE, UNNO, Commencal 100% and most recently the Madison Saracen Team where last year he scored another two Top 10 World Cup results before injury cut his season short. Greg has represented Great Britain nine times at the World Championships and been the Elite National Champion of the UK on no less than 3 occasions. For Greg, making it as a professional cyclist has been the dream but his result in Fort William in 2024 stands out for the Scot as he finished an impressive 7th, giving it all in from of a home crowd.

Why do you ride: It’s what I love to do, nothing compares.
What/who started you racing: A small cross country MTB club, I would join them on weekends and from then I was hooked.
Weakness: Dragging brakes.
Marital status: Engaged
Most important people in your life and career: Too many to note, Parents & Grandad and Stu Thompson really got the ball (wheels) rolling all in their own ways.

Best part of racing: I like the pressure & doubters! It fuels me a lot.
Hardest part: Mistakes, finding where you need to be better.
Worst moment in career: 2024, I feel I had more to give but injury forced an early departure from the season.
Best moment in career: 2016 National champion, Danny Hart & Steve Peat stood next to me on the podium, it was definitely a pinch me moment, they were huge influences for me growing up in the sport.
General career goals: Give it my all, leave nothing on the track.
Favourite food: Sushi
Favourite reading: Nonfiction for sure, but mainly autobiographies.
Favourite music: It changes a lot in my mood, I truly like a very wide range.
Best idea of having good time: Good day out riding with mates followed by some nice food and a wee shindig! (Scottish for small party)
Favourite place to travel to: Fort William, only a 1.5 hour drive.
Most respected mountain bike riders: Steve Smith and Matt Walker.
Other most respected athletes: Eli Tomac, JS7.
Favourite riding spots and courses: New Zealand
Advice to beginners: Do what makes you happy.
Other sports: Skiing and Golf.
Other interests: Motorcycles and Jet ski’s
If I was not a professional mountain biker….. I’d run my own storage business, like I do now haha.
